COMMEMORATIVE BERLIN AIRLIFT SERVICE AT ARLINGTON MEMORIAL
HELD BY GERMAN EMBASSY
Celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Berlin Airlift
On Thurday, May 23rd the Germany Embassy hosted a Commemmorative Berlin Airlift Service at the United States Air Force Memorial in Arlington VA. The Air Force band and Color Guard officiated and the flags of all 8 countries provinding airlift support were displayed. Our Alliance, was well represented by two members from the growing family of airlift history supporters. Karen Lodder of www.germangirlinamerica.com, was a guest speaker. Chris Erickson (USAF Ret.), a member of BAVA Brats class of ’87, attended and provided the photos.
Recognition of our alliance was provided not only by Karen but also by the Ambassdor of the Federal Republic of Germany Andreas Michaelis. Our logo, designed by Glenn Able, a crew member on the C-54 “Spirit of Freedom,” was printed in the program along with an explaniation of our mission.
The Russain blockaded officially ending 75 years ago on May 12th so the concluding anniversary celebrations will be on a lesser scale through September 29th when the Berlin Airlift officially ended. If you haven’t conducted an event or included writings in your newsletters please do so. Our mission is to celebrate the Berlin Airlift through the 75th anniversary and beyond.
